The Dunham Foundation

December 2019

Project Description

Website

Create a new WordPress website for Dunham to coincide with the rebranding from Dunham Fund to Dunham Foundation. The website needs to be fully responsive and represent the current 2019-20’s website design conventions. The website will be secured with SSL, as it currently is. The design needs to reflect the content well. It should be content focused design with an emphasis on ease of content comprehension, discovery, and the ability to share.
Most of all, the website will be built to be secure, last for years and be modular for new content updates on an ongoing basis, whether by The Sky Floor or other relevant parties.

Website Features
WordPress

We are recommending using WordPress for the Content Management System. There has been numerous improvements over the last five years, which make WordPress a safe, flexible, and customizable option. Using WordPress means more 3rd party tools are available to customize the website and that the website is more portable between vendors. The technology stack we have been using on WordPress has been incredibly stable while being custom for each client.

Individual Grant Pages

Each Grant will have a single page template with the ability to conditionally feature content related to that Grant. Whether it is a video, tagged blog/news posts, social media sharing buttons, or other content, the template will have spots to display these features in an easy to comprehend layout. On the listing page for Grants, the user will be able to quickly filter and sort the Grants based on their interests, date, and other relevant criteria. Ultimately, the pages will draw in Organic traffic via search and Social media.
This is the number one content channel that tells the story of the Dunham Foundation.

Events/News

Event channel with display for upcoming events and details. Ability to filter and sort Events content. Same for the news channel. These channels will have feeds which will allow the automation of content pushing to relevant areas of the website. For example, the home page can feature the latest email with a featured image and upcoming events that Dunham is involved in.

Video

We recommend bringing the video content on to the website via Youtube. We still want Youtube to be the primary video host for the social benefits of view counts, likes, and sharing, but all videos should be posted on the website. This content feed will have a short description of each video, tags to bring it around the website to the relevant area (like a grant page it relates to), and will pull in the hosted Youtube video. Sharing is a big part of this. We want to encourage sharing right from this content type. Facebook comments also are an option for increasing social engagement.

Sharing

The website will have sharing buttons on all individual content types. We want to make it easy to share Dunham content on social media, emails, and any other new mediums that come up. Social sharing and the graph it produces on the web is critical to increasing Organic traffic to the website.

Calls to Action

All calls to action will be trackable so we can determine who is coming to the website and what they are doing there. This allows for improving weak spots, seeing how changes are impacting traffic, and knowing more about the users and their engagement.

We focus on having a single direct call to action that the user knows they can interact with. We also encourage what some call transitional calls to action, for example, signing up for an email list.

Analytics

All website data is tracked via Analytics, Facebook Pixel, and any other pertinent scripts. We like to track as much as possible, so we know ‘who’ is coming, what they are clicking on, where they came from, when they came back, if they came from Social media, etc.

Domain Name Change Plan

Create and implement a plan to account for the domain name change, including redirect strategy, search console tracking, and mapping of new pages from old URLs.

Social Media Streams
(optional)

As an additional option, we are suggesting having Social Media Streams, which can be filtered by network, users, and hashtag which can display content from social media for campaigns, grants, or other content. This is perfect for creating a network effect (people like us do things like this) around a grant or campaign. People are more likely to join the conversation when they see their voices will be heard on the Dunham website. Ultimately, the goal is more awareness of Dunham and the organizations receiving grants.

A/B Split Testing (optional)

As an additional option, we are suggesting configuring the website for A/B split testing of home page elements. This would utilize Google Optimize to run experiments on home page content positions, CTAs, and colors to determine which changes result in higher engagement with the Dunham audience. All changes are tracked, and winning variations implemented.

About Us

The Sky Floor was founded in 2009 by Alan and Joel Miller with the purpose of creating original designs, custom websites and creative content for businesses and non-profits.

We have had the chance to work with a wide variety of Churches, non-profits and businesses. From Fortune 500 company Pitney-Bowes to local plumbers. We enjoy learning about different organizations and how they run.

We view every element of operating as marketing, as a chance to tell the story of why you do what you do.

Marketing is more than flyers or ads.

It is how your people interact with your customers. It is how your website is designed and functions. It is figuring out the best flow for your space.

In short it is caring about what you do.

We join your team to define and meet these goals.

Our Team

At The Sky Floor there are no sales people. You collaborate directly with your designers and developers. This means you get a consistent approach and realistic expectations. We have different roles but collaborate within our strengths and weaknesses. A two person team dedicated to quality and creativity.

What We Do

Web design is not just about what is trending or cool, it is a collaborative process of creating a welcoming, informative experience which conveys who you are.
1

Discovery

We work with you to learn about your organization. It is important that we understand your goals but also how you work. This allows us to make choices more like a part of your team and not an outside contractor.

2

Design

Using the information from the discovery stage we create 2-3 designs.

After the initial feedback we work with you to generate variations on the designs which result in a polished template for the development stage.

3

Development

Development is taking the designs and making them function in a coded environment. In the case of a CMS we start with the raw html and then hook it into the back end in a way which makes it easy for content creators to understand and update.

4

Measure

After a site is done we monitor the initial impact via analytics. We will use any user feedback and data from analytics to make adjustments to order and layout which will help the user have a good experience.

Website Pricing

Prices are for the project and are fixed. We believe this allows us to work as collaborative team members.
